| The Czech Nonet
is one of the oldest and most original chamber ensembles in the world. It
was founded in 1924. Invited from the begining by the leading international
festivals, Salzburg, in particular, it became the interpreter and ardent
champion of the music of its time, instigating the composition of nearly
three hundered works by some of the greatest living composers, like Prokofiev,
Martinu, Schoeck, Schulhoff, etc. In addition, its composition enables it
to include works from the Baroque, the classical and the romantic periods
in its repertory. With the addition of second violin, a keyboard instrument,
a harp, and supplementary wind instruments, the range of its repertory is
quite extraordinary. |
