| The Czech Clarinet
Quartet was founded in 1992 on the iniciative of four students at the Academy
of Music in Prague. The original intention was to familiarize Czech audiences
with a style widely accepted in the rest of the world but so far little
known in their own home country. The basic instrumentation of the group
consists of three clarinets and bass clarinet. This particular combination
is also coloured by the addition of closely related instruments such as
the high sound of the E flat clarinet and the deeper, darker basset horn
of Mozart. Thanks to their non - academic approach to various musical periods
and genre, the quartet has in its repertoire a wide variety of styles, extending
from the Renaissance trough to New Age music of the 20th century. This also
includes jazz and popular music. |
